Open any steel deck submittal and eventually you hit a letter: A, F, B, or N. That designation are never proprietary — it's the Steel Deck Institute's system describing the profile. Type F Decking is the middle of the four: narrower than a wide rib, wider than a narrow rib.

What Intermediate Rib Means
The profile geometry in these products is characterized by how the trapezoid is shaped. A narrow rib presents more flange area above. Type B gives better spans for the material. Intermediate Ribbed Decking lands between them: enough top flange to support insulation well without giving up much span.
